To be honest, the timeline does already show one step ahead... but yeah, it's a bit confusing, and we sometimes find ourselves wondering what it's showing too :'D
The idea of showing the full spider path on click is a great one, and definitely something we'll think about.
If we end up doing a post-jam update, both of those improvements are definitely worth exploring. Thanks for the thoughtful feedback!
