It just entirely stopped taking inputs for some reason. It didn't freeze up entirely, animations and sounds still went - just no inputs.
Ah well thats a first. If you hit esc its supposed to bring the "tutorial / how to play" screen on and off. Thanks for bringing this to our attention.
