Hello LeeSquad, thanks for playing Happy's Humble Burger Barn and for sharing your experience! The story should leave the player feeling a bit bewildered or confused. Basically the PS1 aesthetic is an indication of mind control and drugging. The player is in a simulation. The facility is rocked by a nuclear explosion, which knocks the simulation OFF, and as the drugs wear off the player begins to break their programming.
There are documents scattered about as you escape the facility detailing what sort of mind control you have been subjected to, and there's a television broadcast just before the final hallway that explains about the nuclear explosion. The video at the end is of a whistle blower. Did he commit suicide? Or was he murdered before being able to get his message out? Find out in future games from the Scythe Dev team!
