Looks like you died because you couldn't find metal to build more solar panels for your Smelter. My solution to this problem was to take my solar panel and remove it from my base, and connect it exclusively to the smelter. Then, I used it to make 2 metal I needed to build a new solar panel, which I reconnected to my base.
