What did hit both steam and itch was a extreme feminist australian group (named Collective Shout, like the itchio note talks about it) that were bombarding visa/mastercard payment processors.
They, the group, have existed since forever even trying to take down games like GTA and Detroit Become Human.

Extremist groups are emboldened and listened to because of political climates - but you make your own connections - if you want to see the world as tiny unrelated instances that's your choice.
I stand by my support, and to keep safe, to those suffering.

Well, then on expanding one's vision = Mastercard and  Visa are mostly democrat supporters (all its previous and today CE0s are always in dinners and reunions with democrats), so.... 
BUT ANYWAY, Still it has nothing to do with that, they got a torrent of thousands emails and messages talking/threatening their image for allowing X and Y content. Thats what lead to what happened to both Steam and itchio.
