The beginning feels meandering and almost like a train-of-thought which suggests it may represent the exploratory and unknown nature of where these stairs may lead. I felt that at the ~0:45 mark when the second synth instrument emerged, this is when there was some more directional movement added as if we were finally moving up the stairs. The slow upward melodic motion with the stepwise motion of the bass evokes the imagery of the ascension up the stairs. There is a section in the middle where the piano backs off, which I presume is to make room for the brassy synth melody to play out. It is a beautiful section of the song and I wonder if the volume of the synth could be increased there to allow it to take center stage like it deserves. Overall, you have good musical intuition and this duet does a good job of exploring the image you chose. Thank you for sharing!
