Nah MC is definitely not american, the school system works like European/Australian schools.
But also yeah to answer your question i've got no fuckin clue, at least a few months have passed for sure. Less than a year for certain because otherwise MC would've graduated school and that's not happening for another... well you'll see soon.
Damn i spent some time trying figure out whether the town is on the east or the west coast, Well he can't be European either since MC mentions that his dad went to Europe in the intro implying that it's somewhere far so only Australia is left
Also I'm really glad that it's soon i was going to ask you not to do the cliché where MC graduates by the end of the story implying that the story somehow magically takes place through out the school year it's more interesting and refreshing for MC to graduate in the middle of the story which opens a lot of possibilities like moving to another town
