There is a bill in congress right now that would make it illegal for any financial service provider to directly or indirectly prohibit or inhibit any legal transaction. It's called the Fair Access to Banking Act. H.R.987 in the House, S.401 in the Senate. Call your Representatives. Get it passed.

I'm not saying we shouldn't be happy congress is doing something, I'm saying that this bill on it's own wont be enough. It doesn't actually make action by payment processors directly illegal, it just adds a cause of action you can petition the comptroller of currency to address, which they may decide not to do. If they do decide to address it, the maximum penalty is $10,000, which is insignificant to payment processors. Also, they arguably can't even do that, since court precedent says administrative law judges don't meet a jury requirement, so imposing fines is impossible.
The people supporting this bill should call their congressmen and say:
It should create a torte that allows for private citizens to directly sue payment processors.
The maximum fines should be total damages + a statutory penalty.
Undo the existing bullshit that made all this possible in the first place with title 3 of the patriot act(which has now been made law via other bills).
If these three things aren't accomplished, the payment processors will wipe their asses with this bill even if it passes. If you think I'm full of it, I encourage you to read the bill in question.
If you TRULY believe that then why aren't you running around wildly like me and others telling people about the Fair Access to Banking Act and that it currently isn't strong enough to work? Go on. I've done my leg work and I'm exhausted *hands you the torch* let's see you do some good work instead of just shitting on the people that are actually trying to help.
