Just managed to get my mac friend to run it. We don't have official apple certification so when you first launch the game it will say that it can't verify it's malware free - if you go to Privacy and Security it will mention that it blocked the app and you can then tell it to open anyway. (This was with downloading and running it directly - I don't know if it works differently if you try to run it through the itch app.)
