Stop bending the knee to powerless reactionaries. They can't actually do anything but scream and yell. Stop being spineless. Band together. What do you think will happen if platforms just collectively told payment processors "No"? Do you think they'd cut ties and let millions in revenue slip? No, they'd drop the issue.
Payment processors would laugh then keep collecting their rates from the other 99.99% of business. Games is a big industry but compared to all business is still a drop in the water, forget adult games or games that are being censored like ready or not or Detroit become human, they might as well be equal to the people getting mad on this thread. Meaningless in the grand scheme of things for payment processors.
What squirtlel said. As of right now a few internet people who play games for adults/“perverts” do not have the power to do anything other than watch their favorite game devs struggle to make a living somehow.
I would also make the wild claim that the average itch.io-user (just like the average “gamer”) has little to no awareness of the important things that are going on in the world around them until and unless actively informed by a well-worded individual in a visible position who can convey what happened and why this is a bad omen for consumers.
Case in point: I heard about this on Newgrounds before I had a look at the itch.io-forums. ( I have a backlog of hundreds of video games. What do you want from me…? :/ )
