The systematic banality and ceaseless unpleasantness of it all...
To (mis)quote the janky old translation of OFF: "You can be proud to have accomplished your mission, Tippler..."

My GOD, Maddy is absolutely insufferable, and in the most revolting, inane, and obnoxious ways possible, no less.  And I thought Sam was pretty cute at first, but for all of her smarts and preternatural strength, she's ultimately just as uselessly impotent as Emma—or even Kristine—at trying to manage or improve things.

Everyone who could possibly exert any meaningful influence over the situation just rolls over and lets Maddy be her nauseatingly awful self, scarcely reprimanding her with more than a scowl and a few disapproving words even as she ruins and/or ends the lives of innocent people, with them shrugging it off as meaningless.  The (half-baked, unfulfilled) nihilism is strong with these girls...

I applaud your success at having crafted such a strikingly unpleasant and banal reading experience, heh.
