Quoted from the creator a bit further down in the comments:
"You will need to contact itch.io support and ask them about that, I don't know anything about a key. The game should be in your library."
It seems they had done the same thing, preventing some customers from downloading their library purchases of other games as well in their most recent crashout. Not surprised.
