Cool concept! It is imaginable that some of the melody and chord repetitions sounds like the player trying to play the theme again after being disturbed by the friend that you mentioned. It sounds like the friend is playing in the range where the player's right hand should be. I feel like you could move the friend's notes up an octave or two (or down below to the range of the player's left hand (or even both occationally)) and it would make more sense as it is playing anything without fighting with the player's right hand.
