When you buy a ladder, a ladder spawns in somewhere in the world, leading to a new area. You can set it to "always run" in the options. Gotta talk to some people, explore a little my guy, you can level up quickly and easily.
Doublechecked, ladders work, and you dont actually need the money to get them right now in favour of saving time for playtesters. If you give it another shot, poke around a bit, explore. Very easy to get overpowered and wreck the game.
