Finally a bullet hell game where I can make it past the first level.
I was under the impression that usually in these games you upgrade your weapon throughout the stage by collecting power-ups? Which makes good performance snowball very much. Your solution of just straight-up supplying one "screen clear" and one focus mode make the game very accessible. But you always wanna hold either of the buttons down, really, to the extent that they might be replaced by a single toggle button? Would also solve the problem of Z and X not being next to each other on my keyboard. By the way, I tried to use my 20 year old controller, it worked in the menu but not in the actual stage.
My intuition for my hitbox is "whole ship" which seems very wrong. Though I understand a very tiny hitbox has become the norm in this kinda game? Anyways I sometimes felt the bullet’s hitbox also didn’t match their perceived size.
In the levels where it took me a bit to get through, and hence I started to understand the level design a bit, I felt it was very well done. It nicely encouraged some kind of sequencing.
The spritework is gorgeous, of course, I already wrote as much in the thread.
