Great idea based on the theme! I want to say, I completely understand your pain. I made chess a while back and it is brutal. People don't think about things like pawn starting moves and promotion and things like that. The worst part for me though was checkmate detection and making sure you can't put the king in danger. There's so many thing you have to account for. However, I didn't have to implement tiles that get deleted over time. For that I want to say well done!
For anyone who's reading this and wants to complain about the game not having single player, I challenge you to make fully working chess, then see if you have the motivation to make a chess bot.
