There's something seriously wrong with those crabs. I don't recommend encountering four of them at once if you don't want to take a beating!
The art was absolutely lovely, I particularly liked the environment and mr. dr. cigarette man. The wave effect hiding the spawning was a very cool idea.
Music was great and I just want to keep listening to it!
Fun dialogue and world setting.
I assumed that I would be able to heal up at the vending machine and then continue fighting while maintaining my score but the score reset when I got back :(
The fighting was cool. I have a couple of simple suggestions that I think could go a long way in making it feel even better:
Firstly, as a minor thing, having a simple sound effect play when performing the attack regardless of whether you hit or not would have made it feel a bit better to me, either a simple whiff sound when you don't hit anything, or a generic sound that plays regardless of the result and just having the hit effect be an additional layer to it. Would have been nice to use audio to further highlight the different swings of the attack combo.
A more impactful thing to the dynamics of the combat as a whole has to do with the dodge mechanic. I liked that it was available and assumed the optimal strategy would be to time the dodge and then get in hits between enemy attacks. I had some trouble executing this because I had a hard time anticipating the attacks (for the crab especially) and the dodge was short enough compared to length of the crab's attack that even when I successfully dodged, I often got hit when the dodge ended. I then realized that it is actually optimal to just stunlock the enemies to prevent them from doing anything while you stand still and hit them repeatedly, which both takes away the challenge and makes the combat somewhat trivial.
What I would suggest instead would be to alter it in such a way that you can't stun them by hitting them but instead highlight the preparation of the attacks a bit more so you could learn the cues and react to them. Then, if you successfully dodge, that's when they could take a bit of time to recover, giving you an opportunity to get a hit or two in before dodging again!
Solid stuff, I really liked it, keep up the good work!
