Dreamhood

Is this a CPU hog?

I'd like to know before I buy it because I don't have the most powerful laptop

Developer

hey

the game was built and tested on a system with a 1050ti GPU, with pretty much everything set to the lowest settings and texture resolutions.
from the start, the goal was to make Dreamhood playable even on low-spec machines.
that said, it's still a real-time 3D world with dynamic lighting - so yes, expect some fan noise and a bit of heat :)

you can test your setup in one of the most visually intense levels, “lands”.
give it a moment after loading - FPS should stabilize soon.
if you can move around comfortably there, the rest of the game will be no problem.

so instead of buying right away, I’d recommend trying the demo first and testing your system - especially if you're on lower-end hardware.
we're actively updating the game with new levels, better performance, and even smaller file sizes in future builds.

thanks!

I didn't see there was a demo. Thanks!

btw your cover artworks look insane. if the images are yours too , and if you ever feel like sending over a selection, we'd love to exhibit them on the in-game screens

some of them are mine, at least one was made by someone else, another is a photo edit

Developer

drop them here

basically everything I have up here, did you need high res or something?

no its perfect. So now on they can randomly appear across all pixelated screens in every level. whether it's a billboard, a framed display, a monitor, a TV, or a phone.

I wouldn't use the 2nd row, 3rd column picture as that is a modified scan from a Choose Your Own Adventure Book, and the 3d Rivers artwork (3rd row, 2nd column) is from searching Google Images for a company that makes cat trees. Also some of the album art is AI back when it got sketchier results and not so generic and bad. But a lot of it is just fractal art which obviously has no copyright issues

oh yeah also 1st row, last column is a Louis Wain sculpture, so I wouldn't use that either

I tried the demo, and unfortunately I ran out of video memory. Sorry! I really wanted to try it

Developer

sad... you're in our prayers for a brand new, powerful laptop to find its way to you soon🙏

try our future demos when you can .  Rooms and Exhibition are coming this week hopefully, both set entirely indoors. they're definitely less demanding on hardware

you can always reach out to us directly too

see you around

yeah I thought it'd be a good laptop, it has 8 cores and all, so it's great for working on music where each track can run an effects chain on a separate CPU. But I guess it can't run the most advanced games

Developer

yeah when you're inside a 3D environment like in these kinds of games, everything around you is being constantly rendered so it relies more on the GPU than the CPU.  yours might choke when faced with that kind of constant rendering. then your RAM better be min. 16gb
