Sometimes it's very unclear whether or not a rogue has a melee weapon, meaning I'll get -missing boobs some fraction of the time despite there being seemingly being no reason to use one.
You're probably missing the fact that the whip counts as a melee weapon. It's both a melee weapon and a grapple/rope item.
