For a solo dev, the amount of content in this game is honestly amazing. The writing, the art, the code... must have taken a paramount amount of time and effort, I give them the credit for that. I can see the doki doki literature club, omniscient reader's viewpoint and alter ego's inspiration for this game.
...............That being said, this is my personal opinion of the game itself.
What??? Just what??? You're thrown in with absolutely no background or story, playing as a literal doll that shoves words into your mouth. For a self-aware game that claims we have "control" over our character, there were very few times where I agreed with what the puppet was trying to tell me or choose. Not only is everything presented to you in incredibly confusing lore dumps, but I was completely baffled throughout the game, looking to get SOME sort of clarity. Not only was I not attached to any character because of the sheer messiness of the plot (not to say it's not well thought out, just presented in a VERY confounding manner. The GUI is also a little annoying because the LOAD button often disappears and to load a save I have to restart the game) Nulla feels slightly like a creator self-insert... well, at least my guesses of the characters' mbti were right lol. Just wanted to throw this review in for people who care about development and plot, because damn is this confusing. I mean, if you're just here for interesting characters who're obsessed with you for no reason, sure, shoot your shot at this game. But personally, I won't be back for part 3.
You're able to think what you want. If I were to compare, it's similar to the pure chaos of "Pandora Hearts" "Are you Alice", or even the "Higurashi" series. Perhaps it's due to the translation, but the plot is presented very messily imo, along with long monologues that don't capture my interest. Ig the characters just don't pique my interest enough lel. I don't even remember why Nulla wants to destroy everything. I've played too many story-based games and read/watched media with complex plots executed almost perfectly, so maybe it's a matter of expectations.
I think it's important to remember that the game isn't finished yet, so there are a lot more opportunities to learn about the lore still. And from playing all three routes, the story definitely becomes more clear with each route. Some of the things you critiqued were addressed in the game (like the puppet doing things you don't agree with) so maybe you haven't played through everything?
