Hi, thank you for playing Stand by me! We're glad it was an engaging playthrough, even if you found Ciel's actions a little frustrating, which is totally understandable. Our concept for the game is that of an isekai world where the main character wouldn't have memories of the person whose body they were inhabiting, and this is so that the player will have a greater chance to explore the world around them with fresh eyes just as the main character is doing! Plus our character concept for Ciel was to be less of a girl-boss mastermind as often seen in other stories (even though we love girlbosses). Instead, we wanted her to be a relatable, naive, and out of her depth, which allows her to make incorrect but realistic choices.... in addition to getting misled by Altair haha. And in a way I (the writer) feel like it was somewhat a reflection of what may happen to me if I was Ciel - being easily coerced into going with the flow (and joining a military mission oops). But we get that this kind of main character may not appeal to everyone and definitely, an MC that was more cunning may have been able to find her way out of these sticky situations.

This is also the very beginning of her isekai journey, so we hope to show you her character development throughout the game. Thank you for your kind comment about the art and we hope you will enjoy the future installments (with more Kiel and Altair to come!)

While I wasn't as frustrated as the original poster... I must point out it this has nothing to do with the "girl boss" narrative (the push back on that has been as obnoxious as the push for it). Being naive doesn't mean you're completely clueless with no sense of self-preservation. Furthermore, being an idiot or a doormat isn't relatable at all, so that had me side-eyeing your comment. A MC making mistakes is fine, but if you were going for "relatable and realistic", uh... I'm sorry, but you didn't succeed, here.

Hi xeb, thanks for your feedback. You are definitely entitled to your opinion on ciel, perhaps I should have phrased it better that I personally find her relatable (ie being an idiot/doormat at times) - not that she is my self insert, but i am also irl, a doormat/idiot. We wanted our mc to be the girlfailure representation that could learn and grow!! Just like the fellow girlfailures out there…. However I understand some will not find her failures comedic,  relatable, or likeable, and that is totally fair, because we’re all different people with different experiences. I have also played other games where the main character isn’t likeable to me, so I understand where you are coming from.

This is why we have our demo to recieve feedback from players which I am thankful for. I do remember you commenting on our previous demo as well regarding this aspect of Ciel, which is partly what prompted us to make some edits to the story which I thank you for. We have since made some changes here and there after the comments: especially in the first parts of the story, to give her the chance to display more self preservation or courage if the player desired, without having to do a massive overhaul of the first chapter.  Regardless, I acknowledge she is still not for everyone, and it’s totally fine if she(or this game) isn’t your cup of tea.
