I didn't find the generator worth it until I got the bigger engine.
Yeah, it's in the exploding facility. Multiplies your rover speed by 2 and your rover power consumption while moving by 2.5. Very worth it, but it drains your power fast enough that you can't get to the next facility without the generator.
