I'm having fun and loved the diary cipher! However, I found that if you play as Scotty and pick up the cup, you can get locked out of progressing since you cannot, as Marla, ask him for the cup, or as Scotty, give Marla the cup.
If Scotty took the cup, he will automatically leave it in the kitchen at some point, so you won't run into a dead-end.
