I enjoyed playing, but the enemies felt a bit too tanky

Thanks. Yea, it was a balancing act for when you have power ups, and when don't. Or how fast you get to next power ups section - slower can make enemies feel a bit bullet spongey, and if you'll get really fast and the effects of power ups overlap , enemies felt like butter and you a train of lava ;)
