Self explanatory; because how absurd it was. Probably one of the most interesting ones out of every Tiger games as it was mostly base of the Sonic's story of the game. Would be very grateful to see it emulated in some fashion, especially for Sonic fans out there who interested as well.

Oh, wow. This looks really interesting. I love the design of this handheld and how it folds out into a mini arcade cabinet.

I found some more info on it here:  https://info.sonicretro.org/Sonic_Adventure_(LCD_game)

Apparently there were 5 games released in the Tiger "Arcade Table Top" series, all ports of games from Sega's Dreamcast home console.

Thanks for the suggestion!

Huh, all 5 of them base of the Sega games? Interesting.

I have been reaching out to some people who might be able to help provide more reference material, so far with little luck. I know scans of the manual would be an amazing place to start. Aside from that, let me know if there's any other necessary material you think you might need so I can pass that along to anyone I end up reaching out to. Here's hoping we can get this amazing game preserved before it becomes lost media!

Besides the gameplay and the manual, the rest of the assets can be easily be recreated. For instance, the handheld itself comprises with many art assets of SA1's official artwork, and the gameplay's sound effects is also from the game, only compressed to fit a tiny speaker (which makes it possible as optional selection between uncompressed sound effects). So making those wasn't that hard. The hard part is making 1:1 accurate gameplay.

OK, the most useful resourceful reference then (aside from the manual) would be enough gameplay footage. That makes sense. It's nice that these two videos you posted cover the majority of the game. However, I'm guessing most of the remaining useful gameplay footage would involve trying all sorts of things in the different levels/menus. For example: What happens if you don't jump over this ledge? What happens if you die to this boss? Do boss attack patterns have any consistent pattern to them (or is it all random)? What do those password codes do? What do all the menus look like? All that sort of stuff that doesn't typically all happen within one single playthrough of the game unless you had these things in mind while playing.

One other thing that might prove an issue is that in every video I can find, the footage doesn't show what buttons are being pressed. So without another reference, I feel like a lot of guesswork would be needed.

As for the password, 4 of them is already been discovered:

  • RING - Max Rings
  • SUPE - Always Invincible
  • LIFE - Start with extra lifes
  • BOSS - Boss Rush Mode

Agreed. Beside the manual, which is critical, accurately recreating the gameplay will require extensive gameplay footage. Ideally, this will come from the same person so they can shoot the videos from a consistent angle so the graphics can be recreated correctly. They would probably need to do an initial playthrough video, then we can communicate about what additional footage would be required based all the different alternate actions that can be taken at any point in the gameplay. Also, that person would definitely need to agree to be involved in playtesting the builds to ensure the simulation is as close as possible to the original.

Hey all-- Sr101 here. Still have the unit, would be happy to try to complete the game and get more footage! Just let me know what you'd need.

I'm actually a programmer by trade, so perhaps there's something I could do to help with that as well?

Thanks for getting in touch. It would be awesome if you could provide footage of a complete playthrough of the game and any notes on the gameplay. Ideally if you can shoot it with the camera facing directly on the screen to make recreating the graphics easier. Hopefully I can also use the same footage for capturing the audio. Also, if you happen to still have the instructions, a scan would be greatly appreciated.

If you'd like to take a stab at programming it yourself in any engine/language you're comfortable with, that would be cool. I can then use your implementation as a reference. Otherwise, let me know if you would be prepared to playtest my builds and provide feedback when I start working on it and we can collaborate that way.

Godspeed, my guy! Hopefully I get to experience it.

Yo! So cool to see you here after finding your coverage of this game years ago on YouTube and SonicStadium while researching this game myself for the past couple months! Here's hoping a working simulation will be possible at some point!
