Thanks for your feedback and thoughtful question. You're absolutely correct that a simulation of a game can never be as accurate as an emulation since a simulation is based on observations of playing the game rather than running the original code, although every effort is made to make these simulations play as closely as possible to the original handhelds. Studying the instructions that came with a game helps since there is often a lot of detailed information about the gameplay, scoring and fail conditions that help to ensure accuracy. And where contributors own the original handhelds, they help to playtest the simulations to ensure it feels and plays as close as possible to the original.

The purpose of this collection is to help recreate the experience of playing these vintage electronic games so they can be preserved beyond their physical lifespan while still respecting the copyright of the original manufacturers by not making use of their actual source code in these recreations.

Thanks again for playing and for your feedback!

Thanks for the answer! I understand the recreation perpective, and it has a lot of merit. I was more worried about the Game Boy, GBA or DS emulation side of things. Hope some games can be removed from the page eventually if they become troublesome without affecting the whole thing.

The Tetris Jr. prototype was a big surprise, and really fun to play! I remember seeing those videos when they came up like three years ago. Really misterious and interesting. Then, nothing. They even have surprisingly low viewcounts, the original videos. I uploaded some gameplay of your version to YouTube. Notice the shadow flickering on the left side of the 3D model. I noticed that on other games too. Sorry if you already was aware of it. Thanks for the game, anyways. It's something very special 🙂

Yeah, the reveal of the Tetris Jr. prototype is definitely puzzling. If I owned it I'd be taking every opportunity to show it off. Makes you wonder. 🤔 As for the Game Boy games in the collection, they are easily removed if required. The DS game though is actually a simulation 🙂.
