how do u do download newer updates when u played an older version? how will the game remember you?

I'm trying to find a way to have saves being retro compatible, but it's not the easier thing with the game being time based and if you farm too much you'll be too ahead of the story and it wont triggers on the next update. Which is why so far there is a cheat that max out all previous relationships on each update
