I wanted to add some visual flair to the headgears without affecting gameplay, but as BouncyTurtle pointed out in his comment, it ended up making restore cells and possibly other resources harder to spot, and we definitely can't have that. If something interferes with gameplay in any way, I feel it should be taken out.
