I agree with your reasons but I liked the lobotomized ending as one of the warnings about what people can do to others being careless or selfish.
What would you think about eliminate that ending but make Zach think to himself in some moment of the prologue that if he hadn't been careful he could lobotomize someone using the helmet and turn them into a vegetable? That or something along those lines. Something to make think the player one more time.
