You are right about dialogue games. So, in general jams I try to mix gameplay and narrative, so the gameplay doesn´t suffer a lot.

The game can have a very simple mechanic like this one of yours, but the concept, the ambient, the message, the idea expressed can be as powerful to the player as the gameplay itself.
