I tried doing inlays. I started with the tutorial below on inlays. After doing the demo Ant and being impressed with the outcome plus me learning to use plenty of glue and being sure to next time be gentler in cutting off the inlay part I felt challenged to try my own.
I found a black and white picture of a feather off the web. Loaded it into PixelCNC and then modified the generated path layer to clean up the cracks in the feather.
I used a 1/4” 90 degree bit and a mixture of 2D profiling, and medial axis cuts.
Eventually I got the models for both parts looking good so I tried cutting.
This is it:

I was so absorbed in the difficulty I was having getting the cut shapes right I completely missed the fact that it’s so small.
Anyway the outcome demonstrates its potential for fine cuts.
A steeper angled bit would have been so much better in giving more depth to the thinner sections with more glue area.
Thanks Charlie for the tutorial.
