Try turning on snow mode and looking around, Snow mode is in the keybinds and you have to bind it. Maybe "Kerfur" got stuck under the map/in the water and this might fix it.
Thank you, I turned it on and searched for about an hour. Found him under the base, he must've worked his way under there when trying to come back.
