As long as you have 3 stars and a heart symbol on the gift icon, you'll be able to advance to the next chapter. The guide is in the web app in the in-game phone
Thanks, I was being an idiot, I was talking with them out of their rooms and when I tried inside their rooms it brought up the hang out option.
Nice, glad you got it. The 'ghosted' (!) icon means its either the wrong location or wrong time.
