Nice work! I’ve only played the original sonic, and only a small amount because it was my neighbor’s.
I really appreciated all the camera options, it took a few minutes of fiddling to get it right, but I was able to. A very minor note, it seemed like it was really easy for the camera to clip into things. Similarly, it could go really low but the character is obscuring so much, it was hard to see. Maybe something like lifting the camera orbit point when it crosses some threshold.
A little tutorial would be helpful, it was through looking at the control config I found I could climb (which I enjoyed, except when in tight spaces). I didn’t understand what I was spending money on initially.
Another thing worth noting, I was initially confused how one tree had springy branches and other retracted them. If these elements were used a lot, I’d be annoyed thinking one is the other but if it’s just the two, no big deal.
Overall, I really enjoyed it, movement felt good, I like that the attacks were different between the characters even if there wasn’t really much to attack. The expanding pads were cool, they made me feel more skillful than I am.
