So far it's pretty well written. But I do notice that there are some times where characters say "they" when referring to a single male character. Unless a person is non-binary, they is pretty much exclusively used to refer to multiple people or a person whos gender is unknown. It sounds like it might be deliberate with Kess (i dont know though) but most of the other instances of "they" seem to be inconsistent. Using "he" in one sentence, and "they" in another.
It just confuses me a bunch while reading, but this is just a minor nitpick. Other than that, the prose is quite nice.
Also, I'm curious, is English your second language? If so it's damn near flawless.
