I understand why, but it is a shame...
I would have held out purchasing the game here, but you reassured me you'd honour previous purchases.

I will note the price on Steam is very reasonable, but please be careful in the future with making promises that you don't know if you can keep.

Yes, I am sorry, this is actually true, but at that time I didn't know about the Steam rules about the Keys, I can give you a refund if you want. Or if you want I can give you a steam key because I promise you that before you bought the game here.

Tell me what do you prefer and I will do it!

Thank you very much for the offer. You wanting to make things right is more than enough for me, so please keep the money for yourself and the key too.

I genuinely do think the price is more than fair on Steam even if it is purchasing it a second time, and I'll be buying it again now.

...in my eyes you've kept your word to me, and that means a lot. Keep up the good work developing the games, and thank you for responding to me.

Thank you, I will be more careful next time before making promises, and if at some point you change your mind I can always give you a key or the refund if you want!

wait they actually explicitly stated that they would give a steam key? omg that makes them doing this so much worse 0-0

I genuinely believe Nacho Sama's original intentions were true, and they did want to honour previous purchases to those who asked about the possibility of a steam release. I asked over 4 months ago now and at that time they weren't even sure it would be on steam, but promised me a key if it were to be released on that platform. It came from an idealistic place, and they unfortunately didn't research how Steam handled keys and were unable to feasibly follow through with what they originally promised.

This doesn't mean they're a 'worse' person for it. More due diligence needed to be taken first before they created an expectation that couldn't be fulfilled.

I'm one of the people they promised a key too because they believed they would have a stock of keys to give out, I contacted them about it and they were happy to honour what they stated and in the end I chose to decline and purchase the game myself again anyway. They're under a lot of heat, for what to me is a honest mistake, and for the sake of an extra £2.49 (I believe I purchased it at a discounted price too). I'd prefer to give them a break.

People have the right to be upset about it. I just don't think the developer was being malicious... and I won't be holding it against them.

I get your point, but it's not a "mistake" it was an intentional decision. Plenty of games are available on steam and itch.io, they didn't accidentally switch it to steam exclusively.  Also, the contradictory statements of "um actually it's a completely different game " and "I wish I could honor your previous purchase of the game I made a mistake UwU" really irks me. Its either a completely different game and they shouldn't have felt the need to offer a steam key(and shouldn't have removed the option to buy this one) or it's the same game and they should've just continued updating it here.
