I want to start by saying how absolutely beautiful this IF is, I adore it. I remember reading it for the first time months ago and it was easily one of my favourites, the way you handle a child MC is incredible, the lore building flows naturally and I absolutely *LOVE* the characters and their interactions, I always find myself going back to try every dialogue option just to see them all.
I wanted to make that all clear so this wasn't taken negatively it's purely just what I noticed while starting a new playthrough. I felt that with the new update there was noticeable changes in how the MC presents themselves, the tone and some things that... just didn't make sense within the context?
*SPOILERS*
From the start, we learn we're a well-loved, sheltered kid who can be shy, kind, mean confidant and so on... but we're still a kid and we act like one in our tone, mannerisms and speech. Yet with the new update it's as though we suddenly become a much older, matured version of ourselves in the matter of a few pages. We go from a scared, traumatised kid that's locked in a cage and needs a plushie for comfort (before the update) to suddenly eloquently arguing with the Reaper leaders and talking like a much older version of us, all of which is happening in the middle of a battle surrounded by corpses and enemies. It's also stated several times that we just stand around arguing or even have time for impromptu 'lock-picking' sessions?
This isn't me saying a kid can't have drastic reactions and changes to trauma situations, it's more me saying that because the update was set during such an emotionally tense part, that the time between the older version and the new update hasn't carried the same concurrent tone or writing of a seven year old traumatized kid on a corpse filled battlefield.
It's true that there's a difference. Until now, Mc has been more passive, and now they're taking a more active role. They initiate a lot of choices. Yet I didn't feel I'd made them much more mature. It's a childish choice to want to go back to the camp, in the chaos when there's danger. Mc has a tantrum and Mickhail points it out. As for the lock-picking part, I thought Mc being so impress that they almost forgot their mission was a sign of their childish side...
Also, do you think Mc's vocabulary is too advanced?
Whatever it is in my mind. It's an act. Mc plays at being big and strong, mature, but they're going to fall apart eventually. Because yes, they are a child.
I hope you'll continue your journey with me, even if Mc seems to you a little out of character at the moment. π₯°
I can see your points on what you've said and they do make sense, especially when you have a variety of personalities your MC can take, and I 100% agree with your point about it being a childish choice to go back, I wanted to say that I felt the Plushie path really showed us that but didn't want my initial post to be too long.
I think that may be it, I know that there are certain choices to show that our MC *is* quite intelligent but for the situation they're in and at the age they are it does seem a little bit advanced, for example; βNo doctor would be reckless enough to carry poison into a camp without an antidote. I may be small, but Iβm not stupid. And you may not care about others, but you wouldn't risk your own life with something that dangerous.β - There's nothing wrong with that on it's own, it's a great piece of dialogue, I just think that from the way we know the MC talks, and that they're only really used to speaking to their family that it's like you said, a little too advanced, only in the way it's phrased really, I could see them saying the same thing but in a slightly less clear/mature way? If that makes sense xD
But yes! I will absolutely still be following, I adore this IF and have tons of positive things to say about it, this was just one or two that I was wondering about that's all <3
