This is also a tough one, on one hand if there's 3D models, that leans away from 2D, but what you describe does lean towards the spirit of a 2D game as I put it. Honestly I think it's best to be less strict for this first game jam and to let it be a learning experience. If you think it should be okay, go for it! 👍
I will use this first jam to learn and see how others feel and perhaps even one of the rating categories in the future can be "2D Game" or something so that can become part of the ratings for others to be making the final judgement.
