I just uploaded a new Windows build with some updates and better error reporting. If you could download that version and try again, let me know if there are any changes. Also try running the exe as an Administrator if possible. If it still crashes or does nothing, look in C:\Users\ [Your Username]\AppData\Roaming\Chrysalis for a .dmp file (a crash dump).  The drive letter might not be C if you have a different setup.

New version runs without issue.

Shortly after making my post I bought the Steam version and the new fixed itch.io EXE unsurprisingly found the Steam save. Just to make sure that it was the new version that fixed the issue and not something about Steam initialization that got it, I tried the old download again (and got the same result with that old version as before, no window). So your changes did resolve whatever it was. Thanks!
