Hello! Ravi here! I have finally started working on the game for this game jam.

This is my first time making a game, so I was just thinking of what to do and more importantly where to start :D

Well...I know now!

Engine: Unity

Name: Faithful Friends

Concept: A cat and a dog find themselves in a lonely place. Both of them are hungry and have to find food. Survival gets tougher as the story reveals itself. They have to help each other find their way back home.

Game Mechanics: It's a co-op puzzle platformer where the player can switch between the two animals to solve puzzles or just get around sometimes. Example: Forest Temple where fireboy and watergirl are two characters.

Scope: 5 Levels (Note to myself: Keep Dreaming!!!), Emphasis on graphics (I am a graphic designer after all)

Story: You'll find out :)

Progress: Just the above mentioned stuff.

DAY - 01

Today was basically trying to get my creative juices flowing....which didn't really happen :(

But, I did design one of my main characters - the dog. Check him out below!!!

Nice to see another artist like I trying to make their first game :D

the concept seem fun especially if you could make puzzles like fireboy and watergirl. I have an idea for you though, seeing that your characters are a dog and a cat why don't you have a timer like in n and when I runs out the game ends on a screen of the dog trying to eat the cat.

I like what you're doing already but its just an idea (maybe a little too ambitious of an idea considering how much time is left). Cant wait to see what you end up with anyway if you finish in time :)

Ha ha ha :D : great idea!! Will see if I can implement that. And, I am definitely not going to finish the game...the aim was always to make a demo.

DAY - 02

Well today was quite productive!!! Check this out...


A little bit of a level design. Enough goofing around with the graphics for now though. Let's code this.

Day - 03

No progress...

Day - 04

Finally got around to coding. Got the basic platformer going. Now to add the main mechanic.

Holy biscuits that's beautiful! I wanna ride that majestic beast of a Doberman into BATTLE. What program did you use for the artwork?

Thanks yo!!! I used photoshop for the character design & using spriter to animate it.

Day - 05

Whew!!! Got my ass handed trying to code in Unity. Trial by fire as the saying goes. More coding tomorrow...

Here's what I have accomplished so far...


Well this might not seem much. But just to rotate the player according to the slope angle has wasted a lot of my time (and sucked my soul). Most of the tutorials do not address this issue. And there is a good reason to that...the player is humanoid. So the player can stay upright even on slopes. But in my case the main players are quadrupeds and they have to rotate according to the slopes.

This damn thing has really dented my progress...its now practically Ludum Dare for me. Oh shit!!! I got to go to office too.

Day - 07

Well..I didn'tfinish the game...what a surprise!!! Forget a game, I didn't even get to half way stage of a prototype.Things were learnt this week.

But you know what...I wasn't sure if I really want to make a game, but I enjoyed this process so much that all and any of my doubts are cleared.

I wanna be a game developer.

There are a lot of things to learn. Coding is of course right up there. But even designing and animation need a lot of work (took me by surprise!!).

I am gonna continue developing my game post this. Until next time, see ya!!

whoa your graphics look really lovely--i would've loved to seen animation or demo of the gameplay.

also i have to say im REALLY EXCITED about your last post. game dev is super frustrating but it's also incredibly rewarding when it does work and it can be a pretty brutal, addicting process. i'm really glad you were able to share your progress with us, and i look forward to seeing your game and work in the future (perhaps try itchio threads or tigsource if you'd like to continue a devlog?)! best of luck ravi!!
