hey, an rpg maker horror game jam title that wasn't made with rpg maker! that's legitimately the first time i've seen that haha.
i really like the style of everything; the characters sprites look really good and can pull off both simplicity and details very well, the backgrounds and face portraits look very nice, and using a different engine definitely gives the controls and ui a unique feel! the music was really good too, and the story is very intriguing, making you wonder if what you see is even happening and showing cool out of context flashbacks to keep a sense of mystery that works pretty well.
sadly, i couldn't bring myself to finish the story. the lack of an intuitive save system REALLY made every puzzle a lot more tedious. and the puzzles weren't bad at all! i like how the tables part forces you to pay attention, for example. and even if some puzzles were based on luck, it'd be a lot more tolerable if you could have an easily accessible respawn point (i guess the golden music boxes kinda do that job? but it's not enough in my opinion, since you still have to start the entire game over).
i obviously don't like rating games if i don't finish them, but i really think having a save system is really important in this kind of game. if there's actually a way to save and i didn't find it, or if it's added in a new version, i'd definitely give this another try!
