why can’t I play I just keep getting a message saying “abort(114). Build with -s ASSERTIONS=1 for more info.”

Are you getting this from the web build? What browser are you using? You can try the downloadable versions as well if the web build doesn't work for you.

yeah I clicked on the “run game” button but when it loads I just get that message and I’m using safari

Hmmm after looking at it online seems like this is a common thing with Safari and Godot web games. It seems like you'll need to enable third party cookies in order for Godot web games to be able to run. Try disabling "prevent cross-site tracking" in the Safari settings and let me know if that works for you.
