i feel like greg has encapsulated pretty well what my own thoughts on the track. i think the association i have with ambient jazz is that it is sort of low-key and low-energy, with the occasional chord stabs conveying, well, small bursts. however i really do like some of those few sections where you have a slightly more driving and steady rhythm and accompaniment (such as around 1 minute in?)... though i also can see how if you had too much of that you might risk lowering the contrast between the "thunder" sections and the rest

I like the jazz, improv-y quality of the track and the sort of sudden explosions (I guess the thunder strikes hehe). I will say that I would also appreciate a few more "sign posts" so that the track has more shape. I do notice some repeated motives (the descending chords for the thunderstrikes, the chromatic lines up top), but maybe a bit more dynamic contrast could generate more direction. From an audio production standpoint, I feel like it could do with just a tad of reverb, probably a small (smoky) room. Good job!
