As Blue Lava points out, this makes great use of “motion” in its composition. Very christmas-inspired instrumentation, too.
I struggled to pick out the melody during my first listens, but the fact that everything fell within major pentatonic made this quite pleasant to listen to. Thanks for sharing!
Immediately my mind went to 16-bit era games with this - this sounds like it came straight out of the SNES or PS1. There are a lot of really cool things that I hear going on here: the constant motion of the melody giving a sense of motion without clear destination (something I feel if I’m running late), the clock ticking sounds alternating from high to low, the use of high register while dropping the low register occasionally is used a lot in “winter-y” video game music, sleigh bells to add a little Christmas flare, and the rhythm of the bells out of sync with the melody to give a sense of being frantic. I had a difficult time sensing repetition in the melody which made it hard for me to follow along; it sounded consonant yet meandering. I like the multiple lines that you have going on that somehow work well while playing simultaneously creating a synergistic atmosphere of sound which gives points to the accompaniment category for me. Thinking about the jam theme, as mentioned before, you used many techniques that make me think someone is running late, and I can imagine that person being Santa, particularly with the sleigh bells. Though the melody and harmony do not necessarily scream “Christmas” to me. Overall, this is great work and I think it would be a great background theme for a PS1 escape type of game. Thank you for sharing!
