This was neat! I didn't see the confirmation text in the top left since the link color blends in with the background a little, so I was stuck not knowing how to proceed after I got the artifacts all lined up at first. But otherwise I enjoyed it!

Notes on a Mystery's itch.io pageComments
I liked the fact that it wasn't immediately obvious which words were clickable (and therefore it didn't feel as if all the puzzle pieces were being handed to me directly), but I did get a little stuck on the "something you're overlooking" section and ended up having to brute-force it. Personally, I think you might be able to get around that by framing the question a little differently rather than altering the visibility of the words. I feel that if you did make the words too visible, it might lock you out of writing a puzzle where the player really has to think laterally about which word(s) they want to pick up - but that might not be necessary, depending where you plan to take the story. As you say, it's a delicate balance.
Overall, I agree with the other commenters that this works well as a proof of concept. I'd be keen to revisit this game when you've had a chance to work on it some more!
Oh man, I want more! The puzzles are well-implemented and it was a good difficulty for an opening puzzle--interesting but not break-your-brain hard. But what really drew me in was the story. I want to see where this is going! What's special about the lid?
I do think you should just highlight the clickable words, though--having to mouse over every line of text to find them doesn't add anything to the experience.
i think this is a creative concept and the interface is pretty cool though i think the searching needs to involve some kind of gameplay, graphics or game-world interaction to make it work otherwise it becomes too much of a word-search game. anyhow, the story feels pretty well-written. good job!
