  • So much to love with this entry! This was a really cute take on the theme, and the story quickly grabbed me. Once the shrinking potion entered the mix I was fully on board. The writing on this was charming and full of personality. You created a great little world, and once we shrunk down we discovered an even more appeal one. I have to pass along high fives for the art as well. The characters were all fantastic, and the idea of representing everyone as patches was so inspired. It's a pity you ran out of time - I'd love to have seen this story through to the end. As is, the game already felt perfectly long enough for a game jam entry, so a good lesson to take from this is not to be too ambitious with the scale of your stories. Another good lesson would be that, if you can see you're running out of time, re-asses the scope of your game, and cut things down so you can work the end of the adventure into the story. Abrupt endings aside, I thoroughly enjoyed my time with this charming game, and I hope you'll make more like it in the future!

That was awesome I'd love to have kept playing. The writing was great and I loved the humour.

I enjoyed playing this! The narrator / main character has a nicely light-hearted tone, which meshes really well with the whimsical (and really good-looking) art. 

I also got a sense that the main character has no idea what they're doing, both through the dialogue and the way options like the ones in the cave are essentially made at random. So it gave an Alice in Wonderland sort of vibe where I don't know what I'm doing, but I'm moving forward somehow. Which was weirdly nice.

There were a few places where it felt like the text appeared in the wrong order, or more likely, was an older version. E.g. the snail calls you Thimbleton, which, if I were to hazard a guess, was the canon name of the main character before you put in the ability to type in a name? And I think when the spider first appears, the narrator says "this guy indeed has impressive long legs", which implies that we've previously talked about his legs, but we haven't. 

Basically, probably errors that crept in through iterations, etc. I.e. not a big issue.

I managed to get to the end. I just hope Lil Buddy doesn't end up being the big bad. (Also, I really loved the rat king's dialogue (and art!); I thought that was really well done with the different ones shouting out things.)

If anyone is stuck in the tail caverns grab the torch and go down the dark path, or continue through the maze until it prompts you to go backwards, that's how you get through it.

There was supposed to be a save load feature but unfortunately, it broke somewhere during the upload

Really like the art! I've only done one play-through so far and there's a bit where I'm getting stuck in a loop. will try again later and see if I can get past it :D

This seems like a big story for a jam! I'm not sure how far it goes, because I kept hitting the backrooms, but you've done well to set up the feeling that there is a world to explore, and a story to pursue.
Overall it's got a nice text-based adventure feel, though obviously quite self-aware and punny, and playing with tropes etc. However, it feels like there were quite a lot of continuity issues. For example, after navigating through the tail caverns, and then suddenly appearing in the backrooms, it says that the little spider is gone, but the little spider didn't really feature at all before that, so it feels like a strange detail to include.
Also, I think an especially important thing to consider when making any kind of branching narrative is how exactly each and every branch will be received by your reader. This is super difficult to do well, because as the writer/creator, you might have a good map of what's going on, but your reader doesn't. So one path that you might know to be minor/just a bit of fluff, might be the ONLY path that your reader gets to experience, and so the whole thing falls apart. As an example, I'm not sure if I'm supposed to be able to navigate through the tail knot at all. I don't know which is the place I went wrong, or if they're all wrong. And because I don't have that context, as I reader I don't know how many times I should keep trying, because I have no idea what the alternative path is (as you do), or if it even exists. The most important thing to always give your readers is context. If I'm given a decision that has no context, it isn't actually a decision at all - and the same goes for all the bits between decision points.
That said, for a first (or second or fiftieth) jam it's honestly really good. Trying to do any kind of branching narrative in limited time is really difficult, and the things you managed to do are impressive. Well done to the whole team!

Yeah the little spider was going to be more of a feature but had to be cut for time,  as for the maze I designed it to loop on itself, unfortunatly the save and load feature broke so It must've been really frustrating, I apologise for that.

I was also going to make it alot harder to die there and instead have the game promt the player where to go. Poor time management really hurt that section of the game sorry again.

If you ever try to get through it again grab the torch at the info booth and then go left down the dark halls.

the initial left-right paths take you to the same place so don't worry about that choice.

I really enjoyed the story! It had me giggling and gasping and intrigued from the onset. The art was also super cute and all fit together very well. I tried to load in a save after dying quite far in and the game broke, but otherwise a great experience.

Ahh  sorry fo the bug, I swear I tested the save and load feature before I uploaded it but something must've gone wrong. Im glad you enjoyed  it otherwise <3

Lol yeah the initial kill was meant to remind the player to save often,  the hermit is also supposed to remind the player too but ran outta time and forgot to add it.

in the future, I wanna expand for  a lot more exploration and more complex deaths and routes to take
