  • Wonderful job, I've saved this one away so I can come back and beat more levels. Great use of platforming and mirroring for the challenge, great use of the shadow theme in a natural way that doesn't feel ham fisted. The changing sun/moon was great. If I were to give one critique it would be to maybe use a non-solid background to denote "neutral" space. Especially in levels that are dominated by white/black "clouds" the neutral open parts get a little lost I think.

yes

Tell us about your game!
A little puzzle game about an alchemist, along with his shadow, tries to achieve Magnum Opus and creating the Philosopher's Stone. The story is not obvious as we attempted to convey the general message via level and mechanism designs, game structure, and art.

The game is structured into 4 different chapters, each representing an important stage of Magnum Opus. A new mechanism is also introduced in each chapter, to reflect what the alchemist is undergoing in that particular stage.

Controls:
Left Right Arrow Keys / AD: Movement
Up/W: Interact
Space: Jump
R: Reset level

Extra Notes
This was especially challenging because neither of us has any experience in puzzle designs. We powered through it, and in the end we learned and further polished our level design pipeline. While we still have ways to go, this was still an excellent learning experience.

Though it doesn't help that the artist caught a fever :(

Puzzle games with this mechanic are always so clever, I dunno how you designed such satisfying levels but it really feels great to solve them. I love the art as well.

Thanks, glad you liked it :)

Excellent game, with wonderful use of the themes for this game jam, this is a very succinct and beautiful entry. I have no notes, well done!

I adore this game! I didn't finish it because I got stuck on a level in chapter 2, but the art style, and mechanics, the levels are fantastic!

Developer

Thank you!

At some point the game started looping over levels I already played so I guessed I've played all the levels. This is my favorite Jam game I tried so far today. The consept is really cool. It had a few cool ideas on how to use the concept of the game for different pazels and the art is just fantastic. Really great job all around.

Developer

Thanks for the encouragement, that means a lot to us!

As for the looping, I think that was a bug. I've pushed an update to address that, so give it another shot if you like! Thanks for playing though!
