Explain your hypothetical game concept & how you interpreted the theme!
I guess I went to space for this jam, so I made some Mass Effect inspired synth tracks for my take on the OST Minigame Jam. Following the theme of the 'Hero's Journey,' I created three songs, for each leg of the classic structure, all for the hypothetical space exploration game 'Into the Heed Sector.'
'Heed Sector' - The main theme for the imaginary game, with a constant build throughout to simulate the hero's call to adventure deep into the mysterious and dangerous Heed Sector.
'Tribulation' - The battle theme filled with pounding drums and distorted instruments, evident of the hero's many trials throughout their journey through space. This track in particular tackles the jam's extra challenge, using a whole tone scale throughout (specifically the E/D Whole Tone scale).
'Go Home, Someday Soon' - The closing theme for our hero, now adrift in the depths of the Heed Sector, with plenty of synth strings and horns pining to one day return home now that the dangers have been defeated, at the cost of their homecoming.
Definitely most proud of 'Heed Sector' but I'm happy with my submission.
What genre is your soundtrack?
Synth
Anything else you'd like to add?
The second song, 'Tribulation,' was my attempt at the whole tone scale challenge. The entire piece takes place in the E/D Whole Tone scale. I wish I gave myself more time for it but that's past me's fault, not mine.

Nice aesthetic! Would suit a retro-sci-fi adventure perfectly!
Tribulation feels like it takes some nods from Williams' Imperial March or Holst's Mars - great places to draw inspiration from for your theme!
Go Home, Someday Soon was my favourite of the three; gentle, reflective. Very comforting, while lonely. Beautiful!
Nice graphic/cover art, beautiful simplicity. Very often composers do too much and it takes away from the piece being able to work with visual information in a complimentary manner. But as a result of This simplicity i can see a wide range of projects this music could work for. This music also leaves itself open to collaboration and change, like if some in the scene happens which requires the music to become fast pace or sad cause the player died so great job. I can see this music being a good fit for a intergalactic hero architype, but maybe thats because of popular culture and modern media brainwashing me to associate synths with space and interstellar travel 🤷♂️.
A very chill and laid back soundtrack. I especially enjoyed the third track the most with the synth and chords you did! Definitely has that space adventure vibe to it. I could get lost in the galaxies to this music.
AAAAH SYNTHESIZERS AND SPACE!!! 1!
Heed Sector is a beautiful theme for the main menu and... glasses? I'm definitely being taken on an interesting journey! (When the drums started appearing towards the end, I fell in love with this world)
Tribulation - Me. Love. This one. Melody. It sounds simultaneously aggro, simultaneously cool and addictive. The middle of the track gave the feeling of... something falling? The arpeggio is good! Drums... ahem. DRUMS
Go Home, Someday Soon - Nice. Cozy and laid back... am I floating in space?
Great work!
"Into The Heed Sector" succeeds in creating a pretty cool minimalist electronic style song which is built upon as instruments come in. However, I felt the percussion coming in at 1:10 gets lost in the mix.
The 3:4 rhythm works well in "Tribulation". The counterpoint between the bass and arppegiating synth around 1:03 works well, gives the listener the sensation of two conflicting sides -- the bass solid and unyielding, the synth dancing and free.
"Go Home, Someday Soon" is more laid back and sentimental. The pads swelling in and out create some subtle tension.
