Description
A soundtrack composed for a 2D platformer JRPG with visual novel elements.

Music was composed in FL Studio 2024/20

Song Specific Details:

_______________________________________________________

Track 1: 0mni - Get Me Outta Here.
Genre: Orchestral Waltz

Runtime: 2:20 (Loop 2:02)

Inspirations: The image prompt, while I was working on the 6/8 section, I was reminded of Lena Raine’s ‘Creator’ so I took a bit of extra inspiration from that

Process: Wanted to create an oppressive atmosphere, started with creating a leitmotif that we wanted to use in a majority of the songs. Chords were done after. Added metric modulation because I felt that the song couldn't be expanded upon in a meaningful way with how it was originally going.

_______________________________________________________

Track 2: 0mni - The Warden
Genre: Orchestral Waltz

Runtime: 0:54 (Loop 0:44)

Inspirations: “Get Me Outta Here.” and big guys in power in cartoons

Process: Started with taking the waltz from “Get Me Outta Here.” and with the help of verytrippy, we made the melody. This theme is supposed to be obnoxious

_______________________________________________________

Track 3: verytrippy - The Courtyard
Genre: Electronic Orchestral

Runtime: 1:39 (Loop 0:48)

Inspirations: After “Get Me Outta Here.” was complete I wanted to make something that sat in between 0mni’s and my style of music for a more consistent OST.

Process:
I started with trying to make an oppressive song with many dissonant chords as you are in a jail, while still including a sort of goofy side to the OST. I started with the leitmotif on the bass and it plays throughout half of the song in the bass. The halfway point (chorus) is meant to be a little hopeful, along with being styled like “Get Me Outta Here.” and “A Quirky Dealer”. Overall, the song sounds heroic and evil at the same as you aim to break out amongst mean prisoners. This theme also plays in the underground trade area so you are able to hear the machine sounds from all the prisoners creating illegal items when you are there.

Track 4: verytrippy - A Quirky Dealer
Genre: Web Fusion

Runtime: 1:38

Inspirations: Various shop themes from games, The legend of Zelda games, Undertale + Deltarune (Toby Fox). The artist “AQUASINE” inspired me to make the genre.

Process:
It’s meant to be a little out there from the other songs as it represents the Dealer (Shopkeeper). The Dealer is different from the other human prisoners, so is the main robot player character, they find friendship in being different and scheme to break out together.

_______________________________________________________

Track 5: 0mni - Get Us Outta Here! (feat. verytrippy)
Genre: Symphonic Rock

Runtime: 2:14 (Loop 1:52)

Inspirations: “Get Me Outta Here.”, the idea of escaping jail with someone

Process: Decided the song should be in 7/8 to express the feeling of needing to rush. Chose to use an amen break as the secondary drum kit because it's the breakout song. Near finishing the song, trippy recorded their guitar.

_______________________________________________________

Track 6: 0mni & verytrippy - STOP WHERE YOU STAND!
Genre: Electronic Orchestral

Runtime: 2:34

Inspirations: The Warden’s Theme, All of the main inspirations

Process: verytrippy started with creating the chords, which was then sent to 0mni who created an orchestral base, this was then sent back to trippy to write melodies. After the melodies were done, it was sent back to 0mni for final touches, mixing and mastering.

The main melody contains The Warden’s theme repeatedly as you’re fighting him and then Truly escaping, (the characters both get caught just after escaping).

_______________________________________________________

Track 7: verytrippy - Transmission Control (Multiplayer Network Menu)
Genre: House

Runtime: 1:16 (Loop 0:36)

Inspirations: nuphory, Metaroom, Klaus Veen. Network menu themes in various games, Namely Access Connect from Under Night In-Birth and Mario Kart’s network menus.

Process: I wanted a bumpin’ theme to play on a network menu. The process was starting with a simple chord and replicating it everywhere like in most house songs. I still wanted to fit this into the full OST so I included guitars and an orchestra at some point to introduce more familiar sounds to the rest. I’d consider this a Bonus Song!

How does it fit the theme?
The OST represents the players journey and the interesting characters they meet along the way while searching for an escape from the prison they're kept in.

Okok didn't get to leave a comment when reviewing this before but YES this is super good. So much character and quality packed in here across many styles wowow, each one is super groovy and love how you've documented your process and decisions, that all lend through a super solid musicality in practice. This too makes the "catchy" and "quirky" here really work, which can be so hard to. So I feel it can be refined while also a compelling and unique musical identity. It has as broad a range ( "The Warden" to "Transmission control"!) as reasons to appreciate --  amazing from concept to excution!  ;3;

So... I left your post for the very last...

And... I don't know what to write. Seriously. Like, your post is great, well-researched, etc... but I simply ran out of ideas of what I can write in the comments...

So I can say one thing for sure: for me, you are one of the main winners of this jam (and, most likely, you are the main winners of the jam), so I will most likely start working on a short story based on your soundtrack tomorrow...

The good news is that I will try to finish it as quickly as I can and my imagination will be enough

The bad news is that I am not very good at writing fiction and it will be in Russian, so you will most likely be able to read it only through a translator :<

And so, what can I say? Well, great job! I listened to your post about 10 times this week, lol.

Well done!

P.S. Raw ^_^

So detailed, so many songs, and the absolute VIBE! Each song feels so distinct and yet cohesive as an OST! I found every track so special and not lacking, but gotta admit The Warden wins me over the most with the instrument choice and French-esque criminal alleyway vibes.

im so glad you liked The Warden

AWESOME, this one surprised me the most. What the hell guys, how did you do it. Every song is a jam and were only made within 48 hours?
Personal favorite was The Courtyard, I'm that guy in the open courtyard that's gonna be wilding out breakdancing alone in the middle to this jam.

This was insane.  Production quality on each track is wild and each track is so creative and unique. I think my favorite was A Quirky Dealer... absolute banger! One of my favorites I've heard, amazing job :)
