How does it fit the theme?
Description :
To represent the story of the seasons, I chose a rhapsody style form (linking of different themes, colours, harmonies for narrative purposes). The first part represents winter with the celesta and the glockenspiel expressing the cold through the high and pearl tessitura.
The second part represents spring with warmer harmonies and the flute imitating birdsong. Summer comes directly with a more playful character with an acceleration of the harmonic rhythm. The melodies are more nervous and alternate to express two distinct personalities that concert together.
The third part is announced by the minorization of the summer theme and the appearance of descending chromatic motifs to express the leaves that are gradually falling from the trees. The autumn theme is a small descending and ascending chromaticism to give the image of the leaf slowly floating to the ground. The minor theme in the piano represents the cold that grows increasingly louder until it reaches its climax with the return of the winter theme.
